Optical Tracking Technology
The Current Industry Standard
For this technology, a camera emits and tracks infrared signals reflecting off small spheres attached to the surgical instrument (called the Registration Pointer) and the Patient-tracking Reference. The instrument positioning is then triangulated and visually displayed on the monitor.
The benefits of optical tracking in the OR include:
- The ability to track active and passive wireless instrumentation
- It provides a larger field of view during procedure
- It supports and tracks microscopes and imaging diagnostics
- It offers a wide array of surgical applications and instrumentation that can be used interchangeably
