Cranial Oncology Procedure Solutions and Benefits

Medtronic Navigation is dedicated to simplifying and streamlining the use of neuronavigation in cranial oncology procedures. Utilizing our StealthStation® Navigation Systems in combination with the PoleStar® iMRI Navigation Suite, you can reduce craniotomy and procedure time while increasing accuracy and confidence that the maximum amount of tumor has been safely removed.

Cranial Tumor Biopsy
Advanced tumor biopsy solutions, such as the StealthNavigus™ frameless biopsy system and the Passive Biopsy system, allow you to plan and perform faster and less-invasive diagnostic brain biopsies. Innovative imaging tools and skull-mounted designs eliminate visual obstructions and optimize cranial access, while tracking the insertion depth of the needle in real time.
Cranial Tumor Resection and Control -
Medtronic Navigation’s complete suite of tumor resection applications and instrumentation provide you with the required precision and control to resect the maximum amount of tumor while minimizing potential impact to critical brain structures. The powerful combination of neuronavigation and PoleStar® intra-operative imaging enhances tumor boundary recognition and accounts for brain shift during the procedure. These features also help determine the optimal placement and size of the craniotomy and define the least invasive surgical path.

Medtronic Navigation has pioneered countless capabilities to further enhance your navigation capabilities for these procedures:

  • Innovative registration techniques such as TRACER and Touch-n-Go streamline registration by eliminating the need to manually define fiducials, both with the same accuracy you expect.
  • Patient exam merging with the StealthMerge™ application can be performed using any image, any time.
  • One-touch segmentation of anatomy and pathology with our exclusive Volume Rendering Engine enables you to easily visualize critical structures.
  • Advanced visualization capabilities allow images to be reformatted from almost any perspective, providing you the ability to virtually examine pathology and the surrounding anatomy, such as visualizing the spatial conformation of an aneurysm.
  • Microscope navigation facilitates communication between two of your key OR tools - navigation and surgical microscopy - enabling virtual pointer navigation and heads up display capability for virtually all commercially available microscope models of Zeiss, Leica, Moller and Olympus.
  • Ultrasound intra-operative imaging with the combination of SonoNav™ and SonoSite® compact and portable ultrasound system compensate for brain shift and delineate tumors for resection.

Medtronic Navigation will extend its history of leadership and innovation in cranial oncology by integrating advanced imaging capabilities and enhanced software applications in the near future. For more information about Medtronic’s neuro-oncology procedure solutions, please contact us.

"Performing cerebral biopsies in multiple locations with a traditional stereotactic frame has always been a time-consuming procedure, because the coordinates of the frame must be changed each time and it is often difficult to reach more than one location through one burr hole. Using the navigation system, these biopsies can be conducted safely and efficiently."
