Ryan Smith of Washington University and Daniel Mirota of John Hopkins University are the winners of the 2009 Computer Assisted Surgery Research Award. These students were selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates based on the strength of their research proposals.
Ryan Smith will use the StealthStation® AxiEM™ system combined with 4D CT imaging to navigate to a target in a motion phantom, with Lung Biopsy being the initial application. Daniel Mirota will focus on real-time registration of the endoscopic image to the CT image, developing a platform for augmented reality in the operating room.
As a company, we are excited to help these recipients reach their goals and to contribute to the leading edge of research in the field.
